The Yen remains weak. Overview for 12.12.2017

12.12.2017

The USD/JPY pair is rising on Tuesday; the demand for the Japanese currency is low.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Japanese Yen continues retreating against the USD. The current quote for the instrument is 113.43.

The statistics published this morning showed that the PPI increased up to 3.5% y/y in November after being 3.4% y/y the month before. The indicator was expected to fall a bit, that’s why the reading was a welcome surprise. The export prices added 0.3% m/m (+3.5% y/y) over this period and the import ones expanded by 0.9% m/m (+6.6% y/y).

The Tertiary Industry Index in Japan recovered in October and added 0.3% m/m after losing 0.2% m/m in the previous month. The components of the report show that the major contribution was made by the health care, lease, and communication sectors. The retail sector became less active, along with transport and entertainment.

The demand for the Yen as a “safe haven” asset is low right now. Investors are ready for risks and intend to buy.
